Fortuna Sittard Football Club is a professional football club based in Sittard, Netherlands. The club was founded in 1968 and plays in the Dutch Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football.

History

Fortuna Sittard was formed in 1968 through a merger of two local clubs, Fortuna '54 and Sittardia. The new club adopted the green and yellow colors of Fortuna '54 and took over their ground, the Wagner & Partners Stadium. In its early years, the club had moderate success in the Dutch leagues, but eventually fell into financial troubles in the 1980s.

In 2001, the club was declared bankrupt and was forced to relegate to the fourth division of Dutch football. After a few years of struggling, the club was able to climb back up the leagues and eventually earned promotion to the Eredivisie in 2018.

Fortuna Sittard has a fierce rivalry with local rivals Roda JC, with matches between the two clubs known as the Limburg Derby. The club's most successful season was in 1995, when they finished 11th in the Eredivisie and reached the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup.
